Dear Hazaim
We are sorry this has taken so long to research.  At first we thought there was not much to send you, but my mother has found these comments, copied direct from different notes of the Blunts (spelling varied).  I did not try to put it on your site as we weren’t sure it was what you were looking for?
The Blunts bought one mare of the Nowag strain, Canora, but said this of her: “said to be Kehileh Nowag”.  Purchased “at Bagdad, from Anton Latinik, a christian of Bagdad who stated that she was brought to him from the desert by a shepherd who was supposed to have stolen her”.  “It is probable that Canora had been stolen and perhaps, as the man who brought her said, from the Fedaan, and there is no reason that she should not be a Nowagyeh.  This strain is not one of those most in fashion when a horse is for sale”.
Canora, a chestnut, bred one foal at Crabbet in 1882, a filly which they sold in their auction in 1884.  Canora had been sold in 1882.
The Blunts weeded out quite a number of the mares they bought, keeping only those they were certain about and were producing good foals.
They also saw on their travels “a very handsome grey mare Kehilan Nowag” who was well known in the desert.
The Nowag strain is given in “The Authentic Arabian”, taken from some of Lady Anne Blunt’s notes, as being an accepted strain “Nowak, originally from Sirhan”.
